Schooled!!
I thought I had reached the depths of my "I'm out of shape" despair when I discovered that none of my pants fit anymore. Yesterday, I was further demoralized when I participated in my first cyclocross event in Burlington, NC. I'd always wanted to try cyclocross, a combination mountain/road biking winter sport that has been gaining popularity in the US in recent years. While I'd heard it was great exercise, I had no idea that I would spend the 30 minute race gasping for air, feeling like I was going to pass out, and getting lapped by men, women, and children (no joke). It was one of the most painful athletic experiences of my life.On the positive side, it was fun despite the pain, although I'd like to do a race with more obstacles than a single set of hurdles. And more importantly, the experience has made me turn over a new leaf. I subsequently signed up for a 20K run in February, rejoined weightwatchers.com, and am going to train for another cyclocross race next month. Now I just need to survive the temptation of all the holiday cookies...
