Best Intentions

This is Jenn being a very good sport about her birthday cake. Despite being a decent main-dish cook and cookie-maker (or so I like to think), I have never perfected the art of cake baking. Today was no exception. I attempted an angel food cake, and was successful all the way through getting it out of the oven. Then I tried to remove the cake from the pan and it imploded. Rushing to think of some way to salvage the cake, I grabbed some blue icing and spelled out, "Happy Birthday," thinking it might be a distraction from the uneven cake surface. For a moment it was. Then, the heat of the cake melted the icing and it bled all over the cake. The result? Something that would only have been impressive if a 5-year-old created it. Thankfully it tasted pretty good.
